Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 7th October, 2016

Today's weather;

This morning Koh Samui is under a very light and thin cloud cover, that most likely will be burnt away once the sun heats up and you better get ready for a nice, sunny and warm day. Current temp at 7am is 28C

At Kata on Phuket we have a drastic change in scenery and the sun is back in the partially clouded sky and it looks like it will stay, hopefully for the whole day. Current temp at 7am is 27.6C

The current PADI IDC has been completed and today will be remedial training for the candidates before the PADI IE starting tomorrow morning, also here at Kata on Phuket.

First things first though and this morning a visit to Phuket town is on the schedule, where we, myself and the IDC candidates plan to visit the procession that's part of the vegetarian festival. Hopefully I can get some good pictures!

Want to enjoy and see Koh Samui off the beaten track? Go up in to the mountains and walk, trek or drive around. You will be able to find spectacular views over the coast along Koh Samui and occasionally you will also find an isolated house like this one, almost completely off the grid, where people are minding their own business. This picture was taken up in the mountains near Maenam. Mostly people who live here make money by collecting coconuts or be involved with other means of gardening. When driving up here, rent mountain motorbikes and four wheel drive jeeps. The roads in general are fairly good but there are some tricky parts that shouldn't be dealt with if you don't have the proper set of wheels.

Yesterday saw a fairly nice day around Koh Samui, a dry day with some sunshine and a max temp of 32C

Running out of drinking water or gasoline for your motorbike? Since a few years you can find these water and gasoline 91 vending machines around various towns and locations in Thailand. This set is next to the street in Kata on Phuket. The water must be cheaper than at 7-11, but I wouldn't bet on the fact that you actually get the Thai version of mineral water, in many cases I wouldn't be surprised if it's just tap water. From that point of view, the gasoline vending machine makes a lot more sense, since gas stations do close at night and it's handy to be able to fill up your bike for a few dozen Baht.

The forecast for the next ten days on Koh Samui is looking good, hopefully this prediction will last. It will remain cloudy until next weekend with a breeze until next Friday and very hard wind possibly during this weekend. Tuesday and Wednesday might some rain. Enjoy the sun and the beach in the meantime! For an October, this is a nice weather prediction.
