Time flies, especially in the shortest month of the year and it brings us to a 'Goodbye to February 2015'.
The weather was great, sometimes a little breeze, it was sunny almost all month long with very nice and agreeable temperatures and there was hardly any rain to speak off. Now, towards the end of the month you can feel the quicksilver on the thermometers rising, almost day by day is getting a tiny bit warmer.
We can easily file this 2015 February version under a good month for Samui weather! Except for February in the year 2008, all my recorded February's are similar in their weather pattern.
And so castles made of sand, fall in the sea, eventually (Lyrics by Jimi Hendrix) on Fisherman's Village beach
Besides having been on Phuket at the beginning of the month for a PADI IDC on Phuket, I was home for the rest of the month, which was great!
We did a few things to remind you of, a visit to the 'Thai Experience', a highly recommended culinary experience and we played a great game in Lamai; Escapology. This also comes highly recommended.
Furthermore, there was also the second New Year that we celebrate in Thailand; Chinese New Year and in Wat Plai Laem there was the opening of the new Sermon Hall that went hand in hand with a party and a couple of days worth of night market action at the temple grounds.
A good month and time to start looking forward to March 2015.

This month edition of; Food on Wheels; Shake it baby. It sometimes becomes hard to find an original item for this series and this month I had to go back in time for almost a year to find this beauty from Phuket!
Food on Wheels; Shake it baby the front view
After the Mobile burger tuk tuk from April last year, here is it's neighbour, the Shake mobile. In a super small mini van, almost the size of a stamp but still with an engine and a drivers license is required, from this vehicle you can buy fresh fruits shakes and juices.
Food on Wheels; Shake it baby with a look inside
Inside of the vehicle you can fins a small fridge, an ice cube holder and a small seat and not too much else since by now the inside is full!
The front view
It's amazing to see what people come up with as ideas for things to sell and it makes me wonder how many of them can make a living out of this. I can only hope for the best for this entrepreneur!
The 'other side' of the vehicle
This particular market is each Tuesday near Chalong circle on Phuket at Homepro town in case you're interested. Plenty of other food on sale there and other bits and pieces that warranty a visit.

Escapology in Lamai is an escape game which is located at the Beach Republic hotel in Lamai. We were invited last weekend and with a group of six we were locked up in a room, with the task to get out within 60 minutes. Easier said than done!
One of the banners outside of Escapology in Lamai premises at the Beach Republic
There are two games to choose from, the 'The Cuban Crisis', which we played and 'Shanghaied', a challenge we need to tackle and sort out soon!
With 'The Cuban Crisis' a team is tasked with the urgent quest for clues from Cold War Soviet intelligence; during 'Shanghaied', solving puzzles earns coveted freedom from the clutches of the evil pressgang. Each of the adventure games is set in a series of themed rooms, with detailed puzzles, riddles and clues.
You can play the game with 2 to 6 people and there's a minimum age of 7 years old.
The games are a lot of fun and it was a lot more challenging than we expected. The staff is there to help in case you need it or request, but you are penalized with a time deduction in your game plan for each hint you receive. We needed two hints to get ourselves out of the rooms. Teamwork is of importance though and some clues are tricky but slowly and bit by bit hints and clues come together.
Our Escapology group
When clues start coming together, they will help you finding keys or lock combination numbers, only to find even more locks that need unlocking. Be warned though, some of the apparent clues may just be there for decoration use only, which can be misleading and add to the overall fun and confusion.
With staff, Khun Tat on the right and Khun Sugar on the left
The locations is great and the staff was very nice and helpful, kudo's and thanks to them! The price is also good and it gives you an alternative to get away from the beach or 'another' shopping spree, let alone during a rainy day.
Visit their website fir more information about pricing and opening hours (from 10am with the last game starting at 7pm) and one great offer is a 50% discount when you have a Sunday brunch at the Beach Republic.
What are you waiting for, go on and join the fun and see if you can beat the record for getting out!

The new Sermon Hall at Wat Plai Laem has been opened and it took almost 3 years to the date for it being built and completed.
A view from the outside
There was a big ceremony yesterday at the temple and for a few days there will be a small evening fair at the temple grounds. Especially around sunset a great time to visit.
A Buddha statue inside the new Sermon Hall
The Sermon Hall will be used for the day to day temple dealings and will hopefully see and witness lots of activities.
All is set up for the ceremony
Wat Plai Laem is a great destination to visit, it has so many great statues and buildings on her premises and easily my favorite temple on the island, besides being our families home temple as it is. Not that I'm biased!

Found this video of Chaweng in 1982 on Youtube. A nice trip down memory road for those who visited Samui back in those days. It's interesting to see that there was hardly any development at all on the beach in those days, two people almost all on their own in the water.
Great to see some videos back from those days, this is rather rare footage since a video recorder was not a common thing to own, let alone carry around on your holidays to exotic locations like Thailand back in those days.
I came to Samui in late 1999 and it has already changed a lot, add another 17 years and the changes are drastic! I really enjoy this video and I hope that you enjoy it as well.
Leave a comment and tell me when you arrived!
