Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 17th November, 2014

Today's weather;

The Koh Samui sky is lovely blue this morning and it looks like a very enjoyable day is coming up. Current temp at 7am is 27C

In Khao Lak we also have a nice blue sky but I won't be surprised if we will have our daily 2pm shower. Current temp at 7am is 23C

Yesterday saw a fairly cloudy day around Samui with the occasional shower. Max temp reached 30C

In Khao Lak we had a nice morning and afternoon with the daily 2pm shower. Max temp reached 33.3C

This is also Khao Lak, a tsunami alarm tower near the beach

The forecast predicts a nice day today but more clouds and occasional showers for the rest of the week.

Hi Camille,

My name is Greg. I just came across your blog via a Google search. My wife and I will be travelling to Thailand from the U.S. a week from now. We begin with Bangkok and then head to Cambodia for a few days. On Nov 27th we plan to begin touring the Thai islands (until Dec 7th). I know it is monsoon season currently, and to be honest, I’m frightened to death that weather is going to ruin our trip. Originally, we were planning to visit Koh Samui, Tao and Phangan between Nov 27th and Dec 2nd, and then visit Phuket and Ko Phi Phi from Dec 3rd to 7th. However, I’m wondering if we are better off to switch the sets of islands around if there is a chance of the weather being better in Samui/Tao/Phangan in the first week of Dec than in the last week of Nov.

Do you have any advice regarding which set of islands we should visit first based on the weather/typical patterns?

Genuinely appreciate any guidance who can give to a friendly stranger. Much thanks.

Kind regards
Greg

Hi Greg,

Thanks for your message. Unfortunately the weather on the Samui archipelago (including Koh Tao and Koh Phangan) at the end of November and the beginning of December, should be statistically at its worst.

If you have the option, play it by ear and decide where to go, the East coast (Samui etc) or the West coast( the Phuket side), as late as you can. According to the same statistics, the weather should be at lot better at the West coast during that period and I would recommend visiting Phuket, Koh Lanta, Krabi, Khao Lak or Koh Phi Phi.

Hope this helps for now but please let me know if you have any further questions.
