18th September, 2008

Today's weather;

It's very cloudy this morning with a max temp of 26.5C.

Yesterday it was cloudy as well, although the sun peeked through some watery cloud holes a few times. Max temp reached 31.7C.

On the political front, Somchai Wongsawat, a deputy leader of the People Power Party, was elected the new prime minister Wednesday Thailands 26th PM.

Not surprisingly the PAD says no to new PM, Somsak (a PAD Leader) claimed that Somchai was involved in many irregularities linked to the Thaksin government. This is the main issue, how will Somchai react to all things Thaksin related, like bringing him to justice and revoking his diplomatic passport.

Ending political crisis should top Somchai's agenda and the new PM-elect sees few changes ahead.

Here's a link to an article that fellow Thai blogger Richard Barrow wrote; Bored with Thai politics.

Hi Camille,

Has the political issue caused much of a drop in tourism?

I wrote up a blog entry on the Phi Phi Islands on my blog if you are interested at seeing some pics of the stunning day we had.

I'm gradually writing up our Thailand trip. I'd like to be able to help others looking at heading over as you do.

I still jump on here to see what the weather is doing, in the hope I may have the option to jump on a flight today :)

Hope you are well.

Hi Narelle,

It actually may have caused a drop in tourism although there shouldn't really be a reason.......

The situation all opver Thailand is 'business as usual', it was only in isolated pockets in Bangkok that something happened, however, closing Phuket airport didn't help.......

Hope to see you soon on Samui.

You know how the media love drama, so it was just something they could sink their teeth into and have everyone in a panic. Agreed that closing Phuket and Krabi airport didn't help, but if you are going to get stuck somehwere, why not get stuck in Thailand?

We'll be back on Samui next year.

There are plenty of places a lot worse where you can get stuck!

It's difficult to explain to people who don't know the local situation though, that there's nothing threatening happening!

See you next year and thanks for peeking in again!
